Official Training Manual
The society publishes the Official Training Manual (OTM) for the Investment Management Certificate (IMC). The aim of which is to provide guidance to those undertaking study for the IMC examination. The OTM contains essential reading for those seeking success in the examination, including worked examples, key words and concepts, as well as self-assessment questions and a mock examination.The IMC is made up of two units, Unit 1 - UK Regulation & Markets and Unit 2 - Investment Practice, covering the following eight topic areas.

2. Financials Instruments & other Investments
3. Markets
4. Taxation
5. Portfolio Management
6. Accounting
7. Economics
8. Statistics
The current edition of the OTM is the Sixth Edition, which covers examinations taken from 1 December 2007.
The OTM is published in two volumes. Volume 1 contains the material for topic areas 1, 3 and 4 required for the study of Unit 1 - UK Regulation & Markets. Volume 2 contains the material for topic areas 2, 5, 6, 7 and 8 required for the study of Unit 2 - Investment Practice. Candidates should note that the examination for the IMC will test knowledge of the material in the syllabus. Whilst the great majority of questions will test material covered within the OTM, questions may appear in the examination testing material in the syllabus that is not covered in the OTM.

Status of Changes to the Official Training Manual
Changes will be made as necessary to keep the manual up to date. This page should be checked on a regular basis; any updates will be made available to download in PDF format.Candidates should note that some training providers use the Official Training Manual, the cost of which is included in their course fees. Candidates intending to study with a training provider are advised to check whether they will be issued with a copy of the Official Training Manual before purchasing their own copy directly.
