What training materials are there?

Official Training Manual (OTM)

The Offical Training Manual, published by CFA UK, contains essential reading for those seeking success in the IMC examination, including:
Due to the upcoming syllabus change on 1 December 2008, for a short time candidates will be able to purchase both the 6th and 7th edition OTM. It is important that candidates carefully consider when they will take and pass their exam or exams when purchasing study materials. The 6th edition OTM will cover the material tested in exams until 30 November 2008, and the 7th edition will cover the period 1 December 2008 - 30 November 2009.

Volume 1 of the OTM covers material tested in Unit 1 UK Regulations and Markets, and Volume 2 covers Unit 2 Investment Practice.

Candidates should note that the examination for the IMC will test knowledge of the material in the syllabus. The syllabus is available to download here. Whilst the great majority of questions will test material covered within the OTM, questions may appear in the examination testing material in the syllabus that is not covered explicitly in the OTM. Candidates looking for additional pratice questions may be interested in contacting the IMC training providers, who offer online question banks.

Status of Changes to the Official Training Manual

Investment management is a rapidly-moving industry and the IMC syllabus aims to reflect this. Therefore, it is necessary to keep the OTM up-to-date, until a further edition is published. It is important that candidates check that the study materials they are using are up-to-date and reflect the current tested syllabus. If it becomes necessary to update or amend specific pages of the OTM before a new version is published, these will be made available.

It is the responsibility of the candidate to check for any updates that may be relevant to their examination.

Candidates should note that some training providers use the Official Training Manual, the cost of which is included in their course fees. Candidates intending to study with a training provider are advised to check whether they will be issued with a copy of the Official Training Manual before purchasing their own copy directly.
